Your search is over - this one actually smells when lit. January 20, 2005 West End Girl (Austin, Texas) 67 out of 68 found this review helpful
I know you. You were me. Looking for what seemed to be a simple thing - a scented candle that ACTUALLY smells up the room when you light it. You've bought the cheap ones in the grocery store that sent out the weak scent of, well, grocery store. And some candles smell like spray room deodorizer which smells like what one would use in the toilet which then make you think of poop which is not at all what you were going for in the living room. So then you hit the expensive pretty versions - perhaps even in candle stores with cute waxy names. They are not candles, my friend. They are sculptures. Some fancy ones come with cute packaging and crispy dried flowers. This is when you lose your patience. I DO NOT WANT CRISPY DRIED FLOWERS. I WANT A CANDLE THAT PUMPS A GOOD SCENT ALL OVER A ROOM WHEN I LIGHT IT.
This is it. Votivo. You will walk into the room and that room will smell like the candle. The most universally loved scent is probably Red Currant. I also enjoy Rain. The little glass it comes in makes a cute vase after the candle is done. Plus, they make perfect last minute hostess gifts, as the box is very nice and expensive-looking.
So, Votivo isn't the cheapest candle in the world. They're still cheaper than buying a bunch of cheap candles that stink...weakly stink.
Worth every penny April 15, 2005 D. Hoskins (Memphis, TN) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
These candles are a tad on the expensive side, but trust me, they are worth every penny. The Red Currant is fabulous! Light one up and your house will smell divine. It has just the right amount of scent and the red currant fragrance is loved by all. It smells delicious, expensive, intriguing...I give them as gifts and I splurge and keep several on hand so I never run out. They also make a Red Currant room spray, which is good but fades quickly, and they make Red Currant incense sticks, which are way more intense but not as lovely to burn. These candles are truly the best.
i have dirt under my fingernails . . . April 26, 2005 ryan J. torgeson (san francisco) 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
i am a working joe, a blue-collared tool slinger. i don't care much for candles but i like to keep a nice place. i bought one of these candles one day on a whim (red currant, of course) and . . . ooohh, it lured me in . . . that scent. it was divine. not too strong though. i am a very scent oriented person and can barely stand the smell of anything but soap on another person. this candle was like that - not perfume-ey but subtle, like a freshly showered person. so, i bought a few more. my sister was over after that and fell in love with it and bought a bunch as well. i gave one as a gift to my lady and she gushed at my choice of gift. she says that she always thinks of me when she smells it. listen, if i'm going to be remembered in a smell, well, this one makes me proud.
i have just recently branched out to try the "clean white crisp" and "soku lime" scents and let me tell you, they do not disappoint.
these candles must be made extremely well because they do not lose their aroma and they burn for an incredibly long time. the packaging is super 'pottery barn' too.
i dunno. i really dig these candles and now that i have found them for less online i will indulge myself in an everlasting supply.
god, now i love candles. (don't you dare let this leak)

the best aroma of any candle July 26, 2006 Harriet G. Ross (Chicago) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Deep Clover by Votiva is the nicest aroma in any candle that I have sampled. It is not over-powering and yet it does the job. It is a warm, sensual fragrance.
